Meet Luke Zinke (PDGA #136705)

Tell us about yourself! How old are you? Where do you live? What do you do (work/school/etc.)?

I’m 15 years old and go to Kingsley High School.

Tell us about the most important people in your life! Who do you live with (family, friends, etc.)?

My parents are the most important people in my life and I live with them. They support me in all of my disc golf opportunities.

Do you have a nickname or just something else that you go by?

No nickname, just Luke!

Disc Golf Journey

How long have you been playing disc golf?

I have been playing disc golf since 2019 and my first tournament I played in 2020.

How did you get started with disc golf?

Watching people play at a local course one day, and I ask them what is this game all about and they invited to play with them.  From there my love for disc golf began.

Share some of your memorable disc golf moments…

I had the opportunity to Play in the Junior Worlds for 2 years, which was such an exciting experience.  Also getting my first ever ace while playing in a tournament.

Some Random Personal Stuff

What do you do when you’re not playing disc golf?

Riding my quad and being outdoors. Also enjoy hanging out with friends as well as playing disc golf casually with friends.

What is your absolute favorite food (something you couldn’t live without)?

I love Chicken Strips.

What’s your favorite fast-food restaurant?

Taco Bell

What are some of your favorite movies of all time?

I don’t watch too many movies but if I had to pick, Avatar: The Way Of Water

What are some of your favorite TV shows/series?

I don’t really watch TV, I never have been.

Do you have any pro or college sports teams you are fanatic about?

Not really a big sports fan.

What is the first disc golf disc that you ever owned?

Axiom Inspire

What are some of your favorite discs that are in your bag right now?

I’m sponsored by  Lone star discs.  So my bag consists of ALL Lone Star.  My favorites are  Bayonet, Frio, and Bluebonnets

What else is always in your bag other than discs?

Towels and my range finder.

Disc Golf Courses

Do you have a course that you consider your ‘home course’? Tell us about it.

I have two home courses, The Bears Den and Kingsley Civic Center OG.  They are both open and wooded and help focus on both power and accuracy through tunnels.  The OG course is a great course for beginners whereas the Bears Den is way more challenging.

What are a few of your favorite disc golf courses to play?

My local course the Bear’s Den but my all time favorites are the Emporia Country Club in Kansas and Sunset Hills in Peoria, IL.

What is a dream disc golf course for you that you hope to play someday?

Eureka Lake

Do you have any pre-round or post-round rituals that you do when you play disc golf?

I like Listening to Music. Also got to warm up my putters with practice putting.

Do you drink, smoke, snack, or partake in anything else while playing disc golf? What’s your go-to?

No, don’t do any of these but also carry protein bars while playing disc golf.

Are you just a casual disc golfer? Do you participate in any local leagues? Do you compete in disc golf tournaments?

I participate in various local leagues,  and also compete in tournaments.

Do you have any tips for aspiring disc golfers?

Practicing will always help improve an aspect of your game. Since I started playing I generally go out every day in my backyard to just practice my drives.  I also have baskets in the yard as well as my basement, and I putt almost every day.

Do you have any favorite professional disc golfers that you follow?

Do you have any disc golf goals that you are trying to achieve?

Reach 900 rated by the end of the year and hopefully play professionally in the future.

Who do you typically play disc golf with?

There are so many of the disc golfers I have met out on the courses that we get together for casual rounds.  

What would a perfect disc golf round look like for you?

For me just Shooting Bogey free.
