Meet Justin Myers (PDGA #104699)

Tell us about yourself! How old are you? Where do you live? What do you do (work/school/etc.)?

Im 37 and I call New Oxford, PA my home, pretty much live there my whole life. Currently I work at a feed mill, where I’ve been for 15 years

Tell us about the most important people in your life! Who do you live with (family, friends, etc.)?

Pretty much it’s just been me and my mother my whole life. She lives with me still. I have a very small circle of friends, all of whom play disc golf. Some of the best friends I could ask for!

Do you have a nickname or just something else that you go by?

I received the nickname DEBBIE back in 2000 when i started at a new high school and have been called that ever since

Disc Golf Journey

How long have you been playing disc golf?

Probably about 15 years since i first touched a disc

How did you get started with disc golf?

One day a friend asked if i wanted to play and said sure because i didn’t know what it was.

Share some of your memorable disc golf moments…

Definitely my first ace, and first field ace. Amazing to finally get that ace checked off. Watching the Holy Shot at the disc golf shop i work part time at. The countless hours i spend doing course clean up. Installing a new course. Running my first tournament from the start. Lastly the friends I’ve met as well as a few pros like Johne McCray and Will Shusterick.

Some Random Personal Stuff

What do you do when you’re not playing disc golf?

I work part time at a friends disc golf shop. Also i do a lot of course cleanup because that never ends. I also enjoy karaoke.

What is your absolute favorite food (something you couldn’t live without)?

Gotta gotta gotta have my wings and tacos.

What’s your favorite fast-food restaurant?

Probably Taco Bell or Arby’s. 

What are some of your favorite movies of all time?

Billy Madison, Dazed and Confused, Van Wilder, and the Halloween franchise. Lastly Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

What are some of your favorite TV shows/series?

Justified, Sons of Anarchy, Mayans, Burn Notice, Supernatural, Criminal Minds

Do you have any pro or college sports teams you are fanatic about?

Baltimore Ravens and Orioles. Penn State, Washington Capitals

In the Bag

What is the first disc golf disc that you ever owned?

Started with an Innova starter pack but the discs that made me fall in love with disc golf was my star xcaliber and star Avery Jenkins Destroyer

What are some of your favorite discs that are in your bag right now?

My whole bag are Ricky Wysocki discs, so i love my slammers and felons. 

What else is always in your bag other than discs?

Towles, grip bags, snacks and drinks

Disc Golf Courses

Do you have a course that you consider your ‘home course’? Tell us about it.

Pine Run DGC in New Oxford. Its a small par 3 course that my friends built. It’s like a mile from my house and I’ve spent a lot of time helping to make it a great little course.

What are a few of your favorite disc golf courses to play?

Codorus State Park, Codorus Township Park, Boulder Woods, Hidden Hollow, Pne Run DGC, Klines Run, Creeping Creek

What is a dream disc golf course for you that you hope to play someday?

W.R. Jackson, Maple Hill, and The Preserve

Do you have any pre-round or post-round rituals that you do when you play disc golf?

Usually I like to be there early so i can get into the right state of mind. Gotta have fresh clean dry towels. Post round food 

Do you drink, smoke, snack, or partake in anything else while playing disc golf? What’s your go-to?

Gotta have snacks and drinks. I do use nicotine pouches during the round

Are you just a casual disc golfer? Do you participate in any local leagues? Do you compete in disc golf tournaments?

Love my casual rounds. I help run our tag leagues and putting leagues during the winter. I do play in tournaments but lately i’ve just been helping run them.

Do you have any tips for aspiring disc golfers?

Watch YouTube alot!!!! And always listen to what other suggest, might not be 100% the right thing but it could help

Always get better and never lose my cool if I do, but it doesn’t always happen that way

Who do you typically play disc golf with?

I have a very small group of friends so thats pretty much who I play with, other than people that i get paired with in tag rounds or tournaments

What would a perfect disc golf round look like for you?

Bogey free round is always a good thing, or hitting a solid ace pot
