Disc Golf Journey

How long have you been playing disc golf?

I have been playing since March 2020

How did you get started with disc golf?

My husband suggested that we should give it a try, since we were stuck inside due to COVID, and with 5 kids, we needed to get outside with something to do. So we decided to take the kids to 360 Disc Golf to pick out some discs for Easter, and we went and looked for discs in the woods instead of doing an Easter egg hunt.

Share some of your memorable disc golf moments…

Some of my favorite moments have been watching my children learn and grow as they’ve played disc golf. One of the first times out, my son had an amazing skip in birdie at bud pell.

Most recently for me, I was at Ladies of the Lake 2023, and this was my second time playing the tournament. I pulled out the game of my life, and ended up winning FA3. I shot multiple personal bests during that tournament, I had 6 birdies in one round, and the final round was my first even round ever.

Some Random Personal Stuff

What do you do when you’re not playing disc golf?

I spend a lot of time with my family, we play Dungeons and Dragons together, we enjoy music, I play piano and sing. I also enjoy a lot of crafts like knitting, crocheting, painting, and other art activities.

What is your absolute favorite food (something you couldn’t live without)?

Fried rice has always been one of my favorites.

What’s your favorite fast-food restaurant?

Does Starbucks and Dutch Bros count?

What are some of your favorite movies of all time?

Stardust. I love that movie to the point that my family complains every time I watch it.

What are some of your favorite TV shows/series?

Game of Thrones, Parks and Rec, Breaking Bad.

In the Bag

What is the first disc golf disc that you ever owned?

I bought a Kotare, Ruru, Huia, and Piwakwaka because they were beautiful and really called out to me. Once I learned a bit more about the game of disc golf, they went on my wall and I haven’t thrown them since. They were all way too heavy for me to throw, however they are simply beautiful.

What are some of your favorite discs that are in your bag right now?

Diamond, Pearl, Nomad, Envy, Paradox

What else is always in your bag other than discs?

My Care Bear – my daughter and I have the same one, she sometimes gets anxious when I’m not around, so it’s our connection in those moments. I always have water, snacks, liquid IV packets, I have a chalk bag, and my beads for counting shots.

Disc Golf Courses

Do you have a course that you consider your ‘home course’? Tell us about it.

We have 3, Fredrickson is heavily wooded, with tight lines and lots of elevation. NAD is very well used, wooded, with 4 different options to play. Last is Fairgrounds, which is also wooded, and they just added red tee pads that have made it easier to play.

What are a few of your favorite disc golf courses to play?

Rainshadow, it’s absolutely beautiful and has a lot of challenging shots. Shelton Springs is becoming one of my favorites too.

What is a dream disc golf course for you that you hope to play someday?

Milo McIver, and the other big name courses.
